About the Role:

As a business intelligence (BI) developer in the business intelligence department, you will be responsible for modeling data, creating interactive and visually appealing reports and dashboards using Microsoft Power BI, managing Unanet (limited), and analyzing data to fulfill various business requests. The BI developer will work closely with cross-functional teams to understand their data needs, design effective data models, and deliver insightful visualizations. Under the direction of the BI manager, the BI developer will support shaping the business’s data infrastructure, inclusive of reporting, and NYSTEC’s various analytics platforms.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop, optimize, and maintain data models, detailing their structure, relationships, and constraints.

  • Implement processes to extract, transform, and load (ETL) data from various sources into Microsoft Power BI.

  • Design, develop, and deploy interactive reports, dashboards, and visualizations using Power BI, ensuring data accuracy, consistent standards, and visual appeal.

  • Collaborate with stakeholders to understand business requirements and translate them into effective data models and visualizations.

  • Design efficient data model structures.

  • Analyze and interpret data to provide actionable insights and recommendations to stakeholders.

  • Manage and administer Unanet to ensure data integrity and system functionality.

  • Assist in creating and maintaining data governance policies, ensuring data quality and compliance.

  • Stay updated with the latest trends and best practices in Power BI development and data analytics.

  • Collaborate with the various teams to troubleshoot issues, optimize performance, and enhance data integration processes.

  • Train end users on using Power BI reports and visualizations effectively.

  • Develop, implement, and maintain systems, procedures, and policies to ensure adherence to company guidelines.

  • Provide data solutions, tools, and capabilities to enable self-service frameworks for data consumers.

  • Support the preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reporting, analyzing and summarizing NYSTEC data.

  • Obtain and maintain a thorough understanding of the financial reporting and general ledger structure.

  • Troubleshoot technical issues with platforms, data discrepancies, alerts, etc.

  • Document and update all procedures required to complete areas of responsibility.

  • Assist in the development and implementation of new procedures and features to enhance the workflow of the department.

  • Support special projects and workflow process improvements.

  • Exercise a high degree of confidentiality.

About you:

Required Qualifications

  • Data Literacy:

  • Uses data to develop insights in a range of activities.

  • Identifies common data analytic techniques and their potential use.

  • Analyzes data to generate insights that are not apparent.

  • Manipulates data using software tools to facilitate analyses.

  • Presents data using visualization tools to communicate insights to a variety of audiences.

  • Collects various forms of data from a wide range of sources to support problem solving and decision-making.

  • Understanding of relational and nonrelational databases like Microsoft Structured Query Language (SQL) Server, Oracle, and not only SQL (NoSQL).

  • Familiarity with native and third-party connectors available within Power BI.

  • Understands Power BI's row-level security (RLS) and data classification features.

  • Evaluates data to identify what is relevant to issues at hand.

  • Understands NYSTEC's mission, brand mindsets, and core values and behaviors well enough to serve as a role model.

  • Encourages and supports staff in aligning behavior and actions with the core values.

Preferred/Desired Qualifications

  • Microsoft certified data analyst.

Education and Experience

  • A bachelor’s degree in a professional specialty, preferably in computer science, information technology/systems, finance/accounting, math/statistics, or a similar discipline, and five years of related experience, including experience with report writing and technical requirement mode analysis.

  • Demonstrated expertise with reporting tools, software, and other applications.

  • Established experience as a Power BI developer, creating interactive reports, visualizations, data modeling, and Data Analysis Expressions (DAX) language.

  • Expert in Microsoft Excel (refreshable web query [RWQ], Power Pivot, formulas, etc.).

  • An equivalent combination of advanced education, training, and experience will be considered.

The pay range for this position is $79,793 - $109,716.
